Rules and scoring

Complete multi-word lyric continuations from 200 famous English hits, Bollywood favorites, global songs, and classics with forgiving free-text answers and no multiple choice.

Choose a music lane

Start by choosing English Hits, Bollywood, Global Hits, or Classics. Each lane has 50 recognizable songs, so the ten-round set stays coherent instead of jumping randomly between languages and eras. English Hits focuses on widely recognized pop and rock hooks. Bollywood includes familiar Hindi film songs written in Roman script. Global Hits is reserved for major songs recognized beyond their home market, while Classics uses traditional and older standards. The game never asks you to identify a song from audio. It shows enough of a short line to establish the hook, then gives you a text field for the multi-word ending.

Finish the short hook

Read the lyric fragment, listen for the next words in your head, and type the continuation that completes it. There is no timer, so a player can quietly sing the line for as long as needed. Every prompt is intentionally short. The game tests recognition rather than asking players to reproduce verses or remember obscure album tracks. The song title and performer stay hidden until the reveal, so they do not give away the answer. Hints identify the performer and year without exposing the missing words. The answer checker ignores capitalization and punctuation, tolerates a small typo, and accepts a nearly complete remembered phrase. Your answer locks when you check it, then the correct completion appears before the next round.

Read the reveal

After each answer, the reveal shows the full missing continuation, song, performer, and a concise note about why it fits. Correct answers earn ten points, and ten rounds create a clean score out of 100. There are no speed bonuses or hidden penalties. That keeps results easy to understand and lets knowledge, not reaction time, decide the score. At the end, the result card describes the run and shows exactly how many hooks you completed correctly.

Switch lanes and replay

One game takes only a few minutes and needs no account, room, microphone, or headphones. Replay the same lane for another ten-song set, or switch from English Hits to Bollywood, Global Hits, or Classics. On the same browser, each lane cycles through all 50 songs before any can repeat, giving you five distinct sessions. The category choice also works in a group: one person can read the fragment aloud while everyone calls out the missing ending. It is a familiar music quiz format with a direct browser-first flow.

Can I choose Bollywood or English songs?

Yes. Pick English Hits, Bollywood, Global Hits, or Classics before starting. Each lane contains 50 recognizable songs, and every ten-round game stays inside the lane you selected.

Can I play Finish the Lyric online for free?

Yes. The full game is free in your browser, with no download, account, room, or payment required. Choose a music lane and type the missing ending for ten songs.

Will Finish the Lyric repeat the same songs?

Not during the first five plays in a music lane on the same browser. The game remembers which prompts it showed and cycles through all 50 before starting that lane again.

Does Finish the Lyric play song audio?

No. The game uses very short written hook fragments and a free-text answer field, so it works silently without licensed audio, headphones, or a microphone.

Do spelling mistakes count as wrong?

Small spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and apostrophe differences are accepted. A nearly complete phrase can also count when its important words match the lyric.
